Sam's criteria for a good book, however, is one with less words and more pictures. Sam's all-time favorite books to read are..., yes, comic books. And magazines, does that count as a book? (We both love magazines!) Back to comics, though, his current favorite is the Ultimate Spiderman series and other super-hero stories.
Recently, though, we've both come to appreciate our differences. Sam managed to read through a whole short book on design, The Laws of Simplicity by John Maeda, that was recommended by a good friend of ours. And I finally read through a whole Spiderman comic, which Sam got for me as a gift, which is actually quite good!
Here's a fun project Sam worked on some time last year that I managed to dig up while "spring cleaning" my files. It is a line art drawing that Sam drew from an actual photo of me. I love the way it looks like a cartoon, and reminds me of Sam's love for comics!
Back to spring cleaning!
If you haven't heard of them yet, Diesel Fitter is Ottawa's favorite rock cover band. They are a high-energy Ottawa rock band who cover music from the 60's to today, performing live covers such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Tragically Hip, and more.
When Sam was asked to photograph this band's live performance, he could not refuse (as you know, music was a big part of Sam's life before photography, so any chance he can cover a band, he's there!). It is great to be able to continue to do photography outside of our scope of weddings and lifestyle portraiture, and shooting bands is a great way to blend Sam's love for music and photography.
Here they are at the Bass Line Station.
Introducing...
On stage, what a great way to experience the energy of a live band...
One of my faves! I love the lights and perspective of this one.
Here they are, rockin' it!
The guys put on a great show and if you'd like to check them out live, you can catch their next show on May 10th at the Carleton Tavern! More information can also be found on their website.
We got a call from April yesterday afternoon and met with them this morning for their wedding today. It was the craziest thing we've ever accepted to do as photographers since our brides normally book us up to a year in advance, but it was their spontaneity that taught us so much. They got all that was important to them that day, and that was enough.
This just reminds me of how much I love each of our brides! They are all so different and we really support each of them in their decisions and celebrate the things that make them unique. We love listening to their dreams and thoughts on what is important and symbolic to them on their wedding day.
We just wanted to wish April and Sean the most wonderful day! Here's to spontaneity, love and fresh air!
There were a lot of great moments, but here's one we wanted to post as a teaser. More to come so stay tuned!
With spring's arrival yesterday, i celebrated and ran my first 10K in a long while. I didn't set out to do it, but it just happened, which is why it was such a sweet victory! I mentioned, in this post, we were running with the Nike+ and after 20 runs so far, most of which have been short 5K runs, I can say this has been a fun way to motivate me to run again. Sam has loaded all my favorite "girl power" songs on my ipod and I'm enjoying running again.
Now I recall why I love it. It's the challenge of pushing yourself, or just enjoying the pace you're at. The choice to go hard or take it slow. The satisfaction of doing something that makes you feel good. If that is not running, I would encourage taking time to do things you love or used to love to do (when you had the time!) and make those things a priority. Make time for fun!
